What does friends mean?

Friends, what does friends means anyway?
Are they supposed to those people who support you no matter what happens, those who give advice when you need it or are they there to back-stab you all because of jealousy?

Friendship that was forged for decades can end when one becomes jealous over small minor thing. For example, Friend X was jealous of Friend Z's god knows what and Friend X did something which can profoundly affect the life Friend Z. Friend X may thinks its funny but if you're the receiving end of it, things might not be so funny after all.

So, in the end, decades old friendship can be ended just because of some stupid antics of the other so-called friend, who is influenced by his own jealousy, insecurity and arrogance.

Then again, in the world, since we live in a society of people, we are bound to have friends and foes and it's up to us to stand on our guard and be aware of what our so-called friends are doing not that we care so much more than you know or and you can see - but just to be on the safe side if whatever they do has an effect on us.
